Principles:
1. All human behavior is purposeful: choices are made to fulfill one's perceived needs
2. All choices have logical or natural consequences
3. Guidelines (expectations) for behavior must be clear, well understood, and consistently applied.
4. Students require a network and range of supports
5. Competent and cooperative behavior must be modelled and accompanied by positive feedback and second chances
6. The discipline process will be progressive, and we will always treat students respectfully and in a dignified manner - and by its very nature, includes a learning component.
Strategies to help support positive behavior choices:
Utilization of researched-based and best practice which includes: plan for the teaching, modelling, practicing, and positive recognition.
Teaching self-regulation
Using Second Step and other social skill development programs
Logical Consequences
Team meetings (behavioural support plans and safety plans)
Collecting and analyzing data and using it to make informed decisions to improve plans and
guide our learning
Parents as partners
Sparing use of dismissals and possibly suspensions
