SCHOOL SUPPLIES FEE - $100 per student
In recent years, classroom teachers have found that a student "Supplies Fee" works better than each student purchasing from a list. It has been noted that a fee system is easier for teachers to manage while providing equity and cohesion around the materials being used at school. We have spoken to many families who feel the same way.
Therefore, for the 22-23 school year, classrooms are implementing a $100 supplies fee, rather than providing a shopping list.**
The $100 supplies fee is intended to cover traditional materials like pencils, paper, crayons, art supplies, notebooks, binders, etc but we're budgeting for the fee to also cover simple field trips. For classrooms who've been using this model, teachers find that approximately $60 gets used on classroom materials and $40 for field trips and other "extras". For some of the older grades, additional costs related to extraordinary activities such as an overnight trip may pop up throughout the year and we will deal with those exceptionalities as they present themselves. This fee does not include personal items such as: indoor shoes, a water bottle, a back pack, and a lunch bag.
As with anything, please reach out if this presents hardship in your household-- we are absolutely flexible and accommodating.
We will be collecting cash or cheque (payable to Holy Family Elementary School, memo: student supplies, grade #) in the office. Including the grade level in the memo of the cheque will be massively helpful for the office.
This is new to many of us; thank you for understanding and do not hesitate to provide feedback. Thanks, all! :)
**GRADE 6 families: Due to the cost of atypical activities in grade 6 (eg. bison hunt trip), Ms. Amelia Andrews is sticking with a shopping list for this 22-23 year, until we can better communicate the whole-year fee. Grade 6-specific info can be found at her website: https://missameliaclassroom.weebly.com/.
