PHILOSOPHY, CURRICULUM, AND SCOPE AND SEQUENCE
At the heart of Catholic education is the person of Jesus. Through participation in the community, students are guided by the Gospel values, namely, love and service. Through the sharing of knowledge and by celebrating our faith, students are assisted in developing a personal faith and an understanding and appreciation of self and others.
Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues... —CCC 2223
The Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ, curriculum used in our school is developed by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
It focuses on the following six areas:
· Believing - focuses on the knowledge of the Catholic faith
· Celebrating - focuses on worship throughout the liturgical year and the sacraments
· Living a Moral Life - promotes the call to holiness and critical thinking rooted in faith
· Living in Communion - focuses on belonging to and participating in community
· Living in Solidarity - focuses on understanding Catholic Social Teachings and one's commitment to justice
· Praying - focuses on knowing, experiencing, and reflecting on the various forms of prayer and one’s personal relationship with God
